THBT it is in the interests of countries with historical artefacts in the British Museum to accept those artefacts on loan as opposed to maintaining a narrative that these artefacts belong to them and should be permanently returned (i.e. the Greek government accepting the Parthenon sculptures on a loan from the British Museum)
